Enjoy a half-day epicurean journey to the ancient town of Tuscania. From Civitavecchia you'll travel through countryside that was once home to the Etruscans. One of their most important towns was Tuscania, which dates back to the 9th century B.C. When you arrive, begin a walking tour through the medieval center's cobbled lanes, which displays remnants of the walls and towers that once protected the village. Have your camera handy; some of the exquisite sites you'll see, from a vantage point, include the Basilica of San Pietro. Built in the 8th century but almost completely reconstructed 300 years later, the Basilica stands atop an ancient Etruscan acropolis. Then, you'll reboard your coach and travel to a local farmhouse that produces olive oils. Learn about the olive oil production and sample a variety of olive oils accompanied by tasty local snacks. At the completion of your visit, enjoy a pleasant ride back to Civitavecchia.
