Set out on a journey of discovery normally experienced by local residents with a 90-minute tour of Newport's Historic District, a National Historic Landmark. Learn how over 200 homes and public buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries were saved as you walk past establishments such as the 245-year-old Brick Market, considered one of Newport's architectural treasures. The Old Colony House, built between 1736 and 1739, is the fourth oldest statehouse still standing in the U.S. Over on Marlborough Street stands the White Horse Tavern. Dating back to 1652, it's renowned as the oldest drinking establishment in the U.S. Nearby is the 314-year-old Quaker Meeting House, the oldest house of worship in the state. The country's oldest acting synagogue is the Touro Synagogue, famed for its contribution to America's Bill of Rights. End your tour at Trinity Church and Queen Anne square where Hollywood producer-director Stephen Spielberg filmed "Amistad" in 1997.
