Visit Haleakala National Park on this half-day tour where you can view the massive crater from the rim of the volcano. From Kahului, we'll travel upcountry on a scenic drive, passing sugar cane fields, pineapple plantations and panoramic views of the island for Haleakala National Park Headquaters. Continue on a circuitous road that meanders uphill for miles until reaching the Haleakala Visitor Center and Ranger Station. Enjoy expansive views from the 9,740-foot vantage point. Last erupting in 1790, the volcano's massive crater is over seven-miles long and three-miles wide. The crater floor is located 3,000 feet below the rim and dotted with plant life and cinder cones. Depart Haleakala and enjoy scenic views on the return back to the ship.
Special Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes and a sweater or jacket. Temperatures can drop dramatically at the crater. Due to climatic changes, views may become hindered or blocked by clouds or fog at any given time.Passengers with heart conditions should note that the altitude of Haleakala Crater is approximately 10,000 feet above sea level. Consult your physician prior to the cruise should you have doubts about your ability to participate.
