Just 30 minutes from Hobart, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is home to some of Australia's most iconic animals, including Tasmanian devils, wombats, kangaroos, and wallabies. Named from an Aboriginal word meaning "native companion," Bonorong has been dedicated to wildlife rescue and conservation for over 20 years. Staffed by passionate caretakers, the sanctuary works to rehabilitate animals and raise awareness to reduce extinction. Many animals roam freely, including friendly Forester kangaroos that respond to hand feeding. Naturalist guides are available to answer questions and assist with safe animal interactions.

Next, visit Richmond, a beautifully preserved Georgian village nestled in Tasmania's wine and farmland region. Established in 1825, Richmond predates Port Arthur and features original handmade brick buildings, cobblestone streets, quaint cottages, and grand homes. Stroll through shops, galleries, and tearooms, and explore historic landmarks such as Australia's oldest bridge, church, and jail. The jail once held convict Ikey Solomon, thought to be the inspiration for Fagin in Oliver Twist.
Scenic Drive

Enjoy a scenic motorcoach ride with views of the Derwent River. Pause at Rosny Point Lookout for panoramic views of Hobart, the Tasman Bridge, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, and Mount Wellington. Informational displays at the lookout will help you identify key landmarks in the sweeping landscape.

Special Notes:

Please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and jacket, plenty of biodegradable sunscreen and bring bottled water.
Some areas of Bonorong are not wheelchair accessible, there are some slight inclines and dirt paths. Guests with visual or hearing impairments or travelling in a wheelchair must travel with a companion at all times.
Many of the streets in Richmond are cobblestones which may cause difficulties for guests with mobility concerns.
Order of sights may vary on the day.
