WHAT YOU VISIT
Hahndorf
Surrounded by rolling meadows, Hahndorf is Australia's oldest surviving German settlement. Founded in 1839, many local businesses and attractions are operated by descendants of the first German pioneers. There is still a strong German flavor in Hahndorf, most apparent in the German bakeries that line the bustling main street, which is shaded by century-old elm trees, old-fashioned cottages, plenty of souvenir shops, craft outlets and galleries. Enjoy free time to explore on your own, browse the many shops in search of that perfect souvenir or just go for a stroll.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
At over 2,300 feet above sea level the summit landing on Mount Lofty provides breathtaking views of Adelaide, the coastline, and on clear days you can see Kangaroo Island.
LUNCH
Purchase lunch in any one of Hahndorf's quaint cafés. Fresh seafood is king here including King George whiting, oysters, prawns, crayfish, snapper and marron. Also on many menus (and in farmer's markets) you'll find locally produced sheep's cheese, a unique variety of honeys, and an exciting range of wines.
SHOPPING
Hahndorf boasts over 30 shops and galleries that sell fashion, footwear and accessories, pottery, jewelry, leather goods, and ironwork.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
You'll travel from the pier towards the city of Adelaide and into the Adelaide Hills, along winding roads, past orchards and vineyards to the pretty township of Hahndorf nestled in the foothills.
