Designed for nature lovers and photographers, this fun and energizing hike begins with a short boat ride from Picton to the Kaipupu Point Mainland Wildlife Sanctuary. Located on a peninsula, the sanctuary has a flourishing wildlife population protected by a predator-proof fence. Upon arrival, you'll set off on a walking track nestled along regenerated native brush and a mature beech forest. Keep your camera and binoculars handy as your guide leads you along the trail; you'll see and hear the abundant indigenous birdlife like kereru and weka (listen carefully and you may hear the unmistakable tuneful sounds of the native tui). You'll also see a variety of shorebirds that perch along the rocky coastline plus little blue penguins and fur seals. When you climb to a stunning vantage point, you'll enjoy picture-perfect views of Picton township, Queen Charlotte Sound and your ship docked at Shakespeare Bay.
